It is our mission to help each resident reach and maintain their highest level of self-care and independence both physically and mentally.
Hi, I am Margaret Tastad and thank you for choosing me as resident of the month for July. I was born in Omemee, North Dakota at home, to Alice and John Jensen on September 17, 1925. I was the second oldest of a family of 6 children. I went to country school till 8th grade in the summer because of the bad roads in winter. I did hired help for area farm women, then worked at the grocery store in Rolette, North Dakota, and for a short while at Delaunc in Fargo.
While working in Rolette I met and married Irvin Tastad on June 1, 1952. So we just celebrated our 65th wedding anniversary. We moved to Fertile in 1964. We had 4 children, Gary (Debbie) of Nissawa, MN; Kirby (Jessie) of Stillwater; Lanny of Hawaii; and Heidi (Ed) Helgeson of Crookston; 2 grandchildren Ashley and Adam; 1 great granddaughter Noelle.
I enjoyed baking, sewing; so if you were lucky and happen to stop by on bake day you would get a sample. You always knew when you got home from school there would be fresh bread and buns waiting. I also enjoyed gardening, canning, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. I also made a lot of quilts for World Relief. Those were my favorite past times.
I worked at Fair Meadow Nursing Home as a nurses aide for about 10 years. After that, I baby sat. I enjoy watching those kids grow up. I was able to go to Hawaii and visit Lanny with my sister and enjoyed that trip very much. I was also active in Concordia Church ladies aide, circle, taught Sunday School, and other activities in church. In the winter of about 1981 I was able to achieve my G.E.D. which I am very proud of. I was also active in the Fertile Garden Club.
That's about it for my story. I entered Fair Meadow in April 2016. So, thank you to everyone who comes and visits me, it is very much appreciated.
